<p>Table S1 describes yeast strains investigated in this study, focusing on the sequence at the <em>HO</em> locus. Table S2 lists connections between the topics of the lecture component of the outreach activity and Colorado State middle school curriculum. Figure S1 shows phylogenetic relationships between natural <em>S. cerevisiae</em> isolates based on <em>HO</em> gene sequence. Figure S2 provides data regarding species identification of the Texas prickly pear isolate. Figure S3 shows a phylogenetic tree of natural S. cerevisiae isolates based on <em>ACT1</em> sequence.</p>
