We describe the composition of the purine pathways in <i>C. elegans</i>, based on sequence homology with both yeast and humans and present HPLC metabolic profiling standard in worms, particularly concerning nucleotide metabolism. We present developmental phenotypes in <i>C. elegans</i> purine mutants, particularly Adenylosuccinate lyase deficiency: vulval defects, fertility, embryonic lethality and post-embryonic developmental timing. We further present the metabolic profiles of <i>C. elegans</i> treated with AICAR - both wild-type and mutants deficient for the purine <i>de novo</i> synthesis pathway. Finally we present data describing the analysis of neuromuscular function in purine mutants: Aldicard and Levamisole treatments and mechanosensory response test.
